The big IF - What is Intermittent Fasting?
If you've been on the hunt for ways to find diets that suit you best, you've probably heard of intermittent fasting. The idea of a fast sounds scary, but trust us - it's no where near as bad as it sounds! So what is intermittent fasting? Let's break it down.
Essentially, intermittent fasting involves periods of fasting and eating. Don't worry, your fasting time also includes when you're asleep!
Studies have shown that intermittent fasting is an effective way to lose weight, as well as aid in reducing the risks of numerous health concerns.
This diet works for many people as it is less about restricting the things you eat (assuming you have a healthy, balanced diet with a treat here and there), and more about when you eat them.
There are many different ways to do intermittent fasting, but the most popular way is to split your day into fast:eat windows, such as 5:2 over the week or 16:8 over a day. For example, if you follow the 5:2 fast, you would eat as normal on 5 of the days of the week, and for the other 2 you would eat a limited amount of calories (500-600).
During your fast, you need to make sure you are having your daily calories and nutrients to ensure you are still having a balanced, healthy diet. This can be helped with having our Muscle Protein Whey Power shakes to aid in ensuring you're getting enough protein and keeping you fuller for longer to aid in weight loss.
Intermittent fasting is a very popular diet as it suits many different lifestyles, for someone trying to lose weight or someone who has less time to eat. If you are interested in doing an intermittent fasting, get in touch with your GP to get a plan sorted!
