How To Get Motivation

Sometimes life gets in the way and your schedule becomes busy. With the busyness, comes a lack of motivation. Or maybe you're focusing on your own mental state at the moment. It's so easy to fall into the trap of leaving exercise aside when you don't make the time for it, and when you leave it too long, you're worried about starting up again.

But it's okay! Things happen, and all we can do is get back up and work towards your goals. Here are some great ways to get back into the swing of things:

1. Start off small

Maybe you used to be able to run 10kms, or you used to be able to do 50 push ups in a row. But you've been gone for so long that you don't think you can do it again. No problem! Start off with running as far as you can at the moment, or just do 10 push ups. You'll eventually work your way up to where you want to be.

2. Let others be in charge

Having others to workout with will help you hold yourself accountable. Start seeing a personal trainer, book yourself into scheduled classes or workout with a friend and set a time aside for them!

3. Change your mindset

Maybe the word 'exercise' makes you feel dread and feels like a chore. But it doesn't have to be! Think of it as making time for your body, or being active, or staying healthy! Changing the way you think of working out will attribute a more positive outlook.

4. Have a visual encouragement

Set aside your workout clothes in a place that you can see them the night before. When you see them set up neatly for you, you'll feel encouraged to get yourself moving.

5. Take yourself to the gym

If you have a gym membership and are lacking motivation, exercise will feel like the hardest thing to do. The first step to getting back into it, is simply just going to the gym. Once you're in the gym, you might as well do some workout! Even if you spend 30 minutes on your phone the whole time, you can at least do that on the bike instead of on your couch.

6. Try out new ways to exercise

Maybe you're bored of going on walks everyday. Try doing different workouts or exercises to keep it fresh and exciting! We have a great blog post on fun ways to exercise that doesn't feel like exercise
