Ketogenic Diet = Fat Loss 🤔
You've probably heard about the "Keto Diet" online, from friends and family or maybe even seen some of the documentaries on Netflix about it. But what exactly is it?
Well the Ketogenic Diet is a very low-carb, high-fat diet. It involves drastically reducing carbohydrate intake and replacing it with fat. This reduction in carbs puts your body into a metabolic state called ketosis.
The aim of the keto diet is to put, and keep, your body in a metabolic state called ketosis. Our bodies normally burn carbohydrates (glucose) for energy. When you restrict the amount of carbs you intake, the body will break down stored fat, creating molecules called ketones to use as fuel.
To achieve, and stay in ketosis, it is recommended to keep your carbohydrate intake below 50g gross carbs OR 25g net carbs. Net carbs are calculated by subtracting fibre and sugar alcohols from your overall carbohydrate intake. A good way to track this is to use an app to track your food intake (a popular option is My Fitness Pal).
Net carbs = Total carbs – fiber – sugar alcohols
This is where Muscle Protein Power is a perfect addition to the Ketogenic Diet.
